As you all know our incredible Shayne lost his battle with leukaemia this week and we have all been left devastated to think about living our lives without him.
Everyone that knows Shayne knows that he has fought this awful disease from the minute he was diagnosed. He’s never once given up trying to beat this so that he could be around for Trin and the boys for as much time as possible.
Throughout this whole journey everyone, all of you that loved and cared for Shayne, has been asking us what you could do to help. So many people asked us to set up a donations page to help Shayne and Trin and the boys through the journey but we really only wanted you keep him in your thoughts and prayers and donate blood as much as possible. Thank you to everyone that donated in support of Shayne, it touched him and us all more than you’ll ever know.
Over the last few days we have spent a lot of time talking to Trin about what sort of support they might need. Again for everyone that knows Trin you know her answer is “no, we are ok”. But we also know how much everybody desperately wants to do something and honour Shayne’s memory. So after talking to Trin a bit more there are a couple of things that she would love to do if family and friends wanted to support with donations. These are ideas that she has had but I do want to be clear that any donations would be going into an account for Trin and the boys to decide what to do with when they are ready - During Shayne’s first transplant Trin was lucky enough to be able to stay at a unit provided by the Leukaemia Foundation close to Royal North Shore hospital. While it made her time in Sydney much easier, the units are quite old and ready for a refurb....And who better to take on that project! As soon as Shayne came home she was determined when they got through this journey to be able to give something back and try and turn the unit into a comfortable, calm and supportive place for other families to stay while they go through this journey. - for the 12 months Shayne was receiving treatment our whole family was surprised and saddened by how many people require donations of blood, plasma, platelets, white cells and ultimately Bone Marrow. It wasn’t something that we were aware of before Shayne’s illness and have been amazed to learn how much these are needed. One of the biggest problems is the lack of equipment required to gather these products and how devastating it is when people are not able to receive what they need. As a family we would love to be able to donate to Royal North Shore to support the purchase of more equipment that would allow more donations and therefore more saved lives - Lastly, while again Trin would say “the boys and I are ok and don’t need anything” we would love for Trin, Mason and Riley to have some money tucked away in case they need it. It might be for a holiday, to do something around the house or just to have it there for any tough times ahead. And after speaking to so many of Shayne and Trin’s family and friends I know how strongly you all feel about this as well.
Please also feel free to leave any messages or tributes about Shayne that you would like to be shared.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that has shown so much love, care and kindness to all of Shayne’s family through this awful time. We are incredibly grateful for all of you xxx
