Thank you to the Intelligence 2020 attendees for your generous support of the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network (KIWN).

We area not-for-profit, volunteer based organisation that is committed to the conservation of all wildlife species on our island. KIWN has been an active organisation engaging with the Kangaroo Island community for the past six years.

Following the devastating bush fires in late 2019 and early 2020, our immediate focus has been on the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife in partnership with the local Veterinary Clinic, Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park and relevant Government agencies. KIWN volunteers rescued 150 animals impacted by the fires, mostly koalas, with a 40% success rate through treatment and release. Ten kangaroos are still in care and will live in KIWN’s soft release sites around the island.

$2,500 will help us plant 500 Shea Oak and Sugar Gum trees (each with a guard) to help regenerate the bushland that was lost. The trees are a vital source for food and nesting for the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo and provide undergrowth for nectar eating birds and marsupials.

We are a registered charity with the ACNC and have applied for Deductible Gift Registration status, which takes about 18 months. Unfortunately, the scarred but recovering flora and fauna can't wait.
