In 2016, I had a stroke at the age of 42 out of the blue. This lead to a heart operation to fill a hole in heart in 2017, and finally the discovery of a tumour in 2018, the root cause of all my trouble.
After a bowel resection and 6 months of chemo I began my recovery, whilst still being monitored regularly by my Oncology team at BRICC. One year on, I had a routine colonoscopy to check my progress. I steeled myself for the results. When the phone rang, I was pretty nervous, but what came next was devastating. My mum had called from Scotland to tell me she had the same Cancer.
Three months later I was at her bedside as she passed away from this awful disease. I'm dedicating this run to my mum on the anniversary of that day. This will be my first attempt at a marathon in place of The Great Ocean Road Marathon which was canceled. I won't have a crowd to cheer me on, but every donation will spur me on to the finish line. Donate even $1 to the appeal and you get to nominate a song for my marathon playlist (send me a message through the Facebook page)
All money raised goes to BRICC to help support quality cancer care into the future.
