For 20++ years I have worked alongside a group of the most talented Indian artisans and makers who work with incredible pride and dedication to create our collections.
They live and work at a distance from their families, relocated in Delhi and Kolkata, the hubs that provide them with the opportunity to earn. Collectively they hold together, craftspeople whose skills have been handed down to them from their fathers and forefathers before them, creating the pieces that we love and treasure in our wardrobes. They maintain the heritage of hand embroidery and craft – creating garments and accessories of soul and beauty.
During this time as we are all challenged by the uncertainty of what the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt us, their lives and those of their families hang more precariously in the balance. Since March when the lockdown was imposed and factories were closed overnight, these men and women have been without work.
Surviving on the providence of their employers, these funds are becoming tenuous as the factories themselves are reeling from the financial blow that has so heavily hit them. Our suppliers treat their staff as family, and so it is with a very full and heavy heart that they are navigating this time. We at MEGAN PARK are also part of this family and as such have a responsibility to these people who without, we would not exist. While the dust has settled in Australia and we are slowly navigating our ‘new norm‘, the need to support our craftspeople is paramount to protecting both our futures.
While we understand that times are tough and that we are all making sacrifices, we are calling on our beautiful MEGAN PARK community to contribute, as a little can go a very long way. Your support will not only assist our Indian makers through this very difficult period financially but it will also be the voice that says to them that we care and that we recognise the beauty that their work has added into our lives. For example: $20 will feed one person for a month $100 will feed one family of 5 for a month $500 will fee five families of 5 for a month With love and gratitude, Megan Please note – this is a 100% not for profit campaign, with all proceeds going directly to the families.
I every single time I use my clutch decorated in these intricate sequins and beads I am filled with awe at the workmanship, thankyou
