Human Nature Adventure Therapy is an organisation that not only listens to young people’s stories, it gives them the tools to re-write them.

The Covid 19 lockdown has been particularly hard on young people - cancelling milestone events and work opportunities, amplifying existing trauma and mental health issues, and isolating them from critical social connection and therapeutic support. Human Nature wants to fill these gaps and create connection again through our Elev8 youth leadership program.

Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others.

Story telling has earned its place as the most important tradition that humans possess because EVERY story contains a lesson. Stories can teach us to love, to forgive others, to be just and to strive for something better than we have. Stories are where we find meaning. To hear a person’s story is to value their experience and appreciate their wisdom. For young people at risk, often their stories have been marginalised and silenced. We hear the stories of young people who are high achievers, young people who become doctors, who sail around the world, who are sporting heroes. But what about the stories of young people who are struggling in their home environments? Young people with mental health issues? Young people who are trying to find their voice, and their feet in a world that often feels uncomfortable and unwelcoming?

Elev8-ing Youth Voices is a 2 day story telling workshop with Dr George Catsi and Mandy Nolan that will offer at risk young people the opportunity to create a living story library that will both empower them and inspire others.

Through improvisation, performance techniques and role playing each young person will uncover, strengthen and discover their full range of communication possibilities. Staying together in a nature-based setting will re-connect them with a sense of belonging and the healing power of nature. The Human Nature therapeutic team will also be there before, during and after the workshop to support and integrate the experience into opportunities for further growth.

Elev8-ing Youth Voices will lead towards the recording of these extraordinary stories, creating a video library for other at risk young people to hear relatable stories about how young people just like them found their way through connection and engagement with their community.

Human Nature is committed to making a difference in young people’s lives through ongoing therapeutic support for at risk young people from across the Northern Rivers region. That’s certainly a story worth telling.

Please be part of this shared outcome.

Every donation makes a huge difference and will help us bring the Elev8-ing Youth Voices project to life. The more we raise, the more young people we can support with our therapeutic mental wellness programs at Human Nature.
