'Right the Wrong' - In Aid of Brisbane Domestic Violence Service

Katherine here, This is a very personal note from me.

Beginning on March 8 2020, International Women’s day I am starting a fundraising page to aid the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service. BDVS is funded by Micah projects and more information can be seen at https://www.bdvs.org.au/

The fundraising drive will end in May 2020, one year after I luckily escaped from violence at the hands of my ex-partner.

As a vulnerable person, the BDVS was the key frontline service that helped me feel some level of security for the first time in a year. BDVS also provide legal advice and studies to help facilitate national and international reform in the domestic violence space.

I recognise diversity in abusive relationships so this will in turn aid every identified gender and race who are affected.

I am a survivor! I have personally been working with both the Queensland Police Service and ANROWS, the Australia National Research Organisation for Women's Safety to provide insight into my experiences to identify and push for reform around how abusers further control their victims by exploiting policing and legal systems and processes.

I want to thank my friends that helped me through with safe houses and care, notably Joanne and Peter; I know it impacted your lives seeing my struggle and not being able to do anything about it. I am forever grateful.

I count my blessings and smile every day and always consider what other people could be going through in their personal lives. Much love and gratitude.
