Nadene's Trek to Base Camp with Take On Nepal

Hi Friends. Well this exciting, crazy, hair brained idea, of me trekking to Everest Base Camp, came after talking to the lovely Susan Devitt and her life partner Som Tamang. They are the co-founders of ‘Take On Nepal’. Susan told me all about this incredible, all female trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. This particular trek employs female guides, female porters and everyone taking part on the trek is also female. In Batase, it is believed that women shouldn’t be earning money but should spend their lives looking after their husband and his extended family. Life for young girls in the Batase and Nepal region isn’t all that grand. With many having to go into prostitution as well as slavery, just to survive. Or being married and having babies as young as 13. All the money raised on this trek will go to their charity ‘Friends Of Himalayan Children’ for building opportunities and giving not only these young girls a chance to bring positive change to their lives but also single Mums who have been shunned by society as well as those living with a disability. Som and Susan do so much to help stop the exploitation of children & vulnerable people as well as human trafficking in Nepal. Amongst other things they have also built a hostel and school for orphaned children. Once again helping those most in need. I was originally going to travel to Canada this year but when I spoke with Susan and heard about this incredible and truly mind-blowing experience, I felt I had no choice but to change my destination plans. If I went to Canada it would have just been for my own benefit, but this trek will help so many young women along the way. It will also be giving me an experience I'd never obtain anywhere else in the world. Som and Susan are such beautiful humans and I'm thrilled, proud and honoured that I'll be a part of the ‘Take On Nepal’ family, helping to make a positive change to the lives of so many young Nepalese girls and help them achieve independence. I really can’t wait to experience this amazing opportunity. Thank you all for your love, support and encouragement.
