I spend a lot of time walking and cycling the Aussie bush looking for orchids. Especially when I stop to take photos, I come across the animals. Mostly they are unseen until you stop, stand and listen.
I have walked and cycled a lot of Aussie bush since the current spate of fires have begun - starting when I cycled from Rockhampton to Gold Coast in October. I have seen first hand the pressure the bush has been under from the drought and the heat and now the fires.
The bush fires have shown how fragile animal life is in the bush. They say 1 billion have perished. Even at half of that, that is 20 for every Australian. Ouch!!
WIRES looks after injured animals in New South Wales (my state). Get a human to find an injured animal and WIRES will do their best. Donate now to help WIRES. They will save a species or 2 along the way.
I will go and visit every National Park around Sydney by train and bicycle over the next 2 months - and share my photos. That is one new park every week for the next 8 weeks. Some are close and some are far. Let's enjoy what we have and spare a thought and a dollar (or five) for the unseen animals
WIRES, the NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service has been rescuing and caring for native animals for over 35 years. Our mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.
