In 2012, my brother Colin died of cancer. He was too young. Following his 21 month journey from diagnosis until he left us was both a journey of great sadness, but one I will forever cherish having travelled through with him.
Every year since he has died I have stopped drinking alcohol in July to raise money for cancer research at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre here in Geelong. This is my gift back to him. This is a way to remember him.
I am very disturbed that Dry July, the organisation through which I donated in previous years has decided this year to partner with a liquor store - BWS - and I cannot in conscience support it any more. I am pleased that Barwon Health offered an option to donate directly to its Cancer centre.
Please support me by donating to my cause this July.
Maree.
