About

Life has chosen a sudden course - as it sometimes does…
On Tuesday 16th April 2019 my son Deklyn Shaw, age 17 was diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive brain cancer called Glioblastoma.
This news has sent shock waves through our family as it was only in February that he was given the “all clear” from his specialists after conquering Lymphoma & being in remission for 6 years.
Life is a great mystery... Beyond reason.
In the next week he will begin chemo & radiation therapy which they say may stop the growth & hopefully shrink the tumours.
Although the Doctors say there is not a whole lot that can be done for this type of cancer, we are choosing to stay hopeful & open to miracles.
I’ve witnessed & experienced many miracles before, so I am expecting another.
Dek is the younger brother to his sister India 21, & older step brother to Isaac 6 & Jacob 8 (who don’t live with us). All adore him.
Those who are close know Dek to be witty & cheeky but also peaceful, sensitive, & loving, with a deep knowing presence & strength in his eyes. He has a beautiful mind & often wonders into new ways of making the world a better place. He’s kind to everyone he meets but chooses only a selected few whom he holds close.
He is our Peaceful Warrior.
Dek’s favourite things are desk top gaming, exploring new places & hanging out with his dog Cobi & his mates.
In the months that follow, Deklyn is going to need my full-time care. As a sole parent this means I won’t be able to go to work & earn an income…
I’m reaching out for your help.
Here are some of the ways your donations will support Deklyn…
- Daily travel to/from hospital
- Items to support special needs especially around home
- Supporting therapies
- Occasional day trips
- Further research into finding more effective treatment for this type of cancer.
I would also love to take him & his sister for a holiday within Australia while he can still travel & enjoy the sights. Thinking maybe a trip to Uluru as he hasn’t been there yet.
Any ideas of places to visit are also welcome.
Feeling so grateful for this opportunity & this platform as a way to support Deklyn.
On behalf of the Shaw family, thank you, thank you, thank you.
