Dear friends I am celebrating a special birthday milestone in 2019 and would like to share the joy by helping the underprivileged children in Indonesia through Hoshizora Foundation. The Foundation's work in changing the children's lives through education support has been amazing, and I have been a supporter of Hoshizora because of this. WHY EDUCATION IN INDONESIA? Many of us may not know that in the last two years, more than 60,000 students in Indonesia never completed elementary school and more than 900,000 children never entered high school. Attending school is not currently easy and free for many kids in remote areas in the country due to financial and social reasons. Hoshizora's programs aim to address this challenge, supporting the provision of education access for students from elementary school until university level, and at the same time providing mentoring to the children and necessary social support. WHO IS HOSHIZORA? Established in 2006 by a group of Indonesian students studying under a scholarship program in Japan, Hoshizora has been sending more than 2,200 children to school. In 2017 alone, the Foundation's support reached children in 484 schools in 41 areas located in 14 provinces in Indonesia. In the scholarship selection process, Hoshizora Team regularly travels to remote areas in Indonesia to learn about the children's education performance, characters, needs, and social conditions. The Foundation also provides mentoring and capacity building programs for the scholarship recipients through one-on-one communications, special classes and seminars, as well as children forums in several islands in the country. Hoshizora is also supported by more than 110 teachers in remote areas volunteering to monitor the Hoshizora's children, provide mentoring support, and help facilitate education activities for the children in their communities.
