The extremely wonderful Canberra based artist Brenda Croft's storage unit in Belconnen was broken into on Tuesday night and artwork and personal belongings were stolen, including her work ‘Grounded’ (triptych), which was in the Hindmarsh Prize at Canberra Glassworks and she had only collected it yesterday from touring in Japan.
It’s a very distinctive one-off work, kiln-cast lead crystal (red, white and black), mounted on 3 distressed coreten steel boxes with electrical wiring, 20.5 (h) x 20.5 (w) x 26.0 (d) as a group of three, or as single works. The lead crystal objects are cast stone axes.
Brenda also had objects stolen that were in ‘heart-in-hand’ at Canberra Contemporary Art Space earlier this year.
Then on Wednesday, on her way back to her home after discovering the robbery, Brenda fell and broke her leg. She will be completely immobile for six weeks and her archive remains vulnerable in its current location.
This fundraising campaign is set up to help relocate Brenda’s archive (which is substantial) into a more secure location. You can show your support through this fundraiser!
