Cyclone Gaja - 45 lives lost ; 250,000 people displaced.
Cyclone Gaja that hit the coastal regions of Nagappattinam and Vedaranyam in Tamil Nadu, the worst in 25 years, has wreaked havoc in the region, taking with it the lives of 45 people and livestock, uprooted thousands of coconut trees that took years to grow, and flooded the fields snatching away the main source of income of 95% of the population. The destruction left behind is enormous.
While we, who are far away, cannot help on the ground level, let us try and help the affected people most of whom are farmers who feed our families, by helping those who are working tirelessly out there - with our donations.
The funds raised will go towards providing basic relief materials like clothes, blankets, clean drinking water and food, helping clear fallen trees and restoring houses.
I am starting this campaign on behalf of CTC (http://chennaitrekkers.org/gaja/) in the hope of helping the volunteers of this organization to provide disaster relief to the affected people. CTC is a non-profit, 40k plus volunteer based group with like-minded individuals who go beyond just organizing outdoor activities. They have got together again to help the people affected by the cyclone in Tamil Nadu by distributing essential relief materials.
I am a member of his club and personally know the volunteers behind the relief operations. Please do not hesitate in donating as much as you can to help the people who are struggling to get back to dignified living.
Thank you for your contribution and please don't forget to share.
Sincerely, TA
CTC thanks its donors & volunteers for coming forward with so much energy and contributing to the relief work. We are thankful to each one of you and promise to ensure that the help reaches the people in need.
