Hello my lovelies, for my birthday this year I'm asking for any donations you can spare to go to The Unicorn Foundation. Im choosing this charity as their mission means most to me because my beloved Nan has been battling this horrible disease for years now.
The Unicorn Foundation was formed by Dr John Leyden and Simone Leyden in 2009 and is a medical not-for-profit charity directed towards improving the outcomes of patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours (also known as NET's)
Previously considered to be rare, NETs are increasing in incidence in Australia, as statistics are showing three to four people per 100,000.
My dearest Nan also suffers from severe depression, which makes her cancer worse as she needs to increase her Serotonin levels, but the NET's feed on it thanks to medication. Our beautiful, selfless, perfect mother/nan/sister/friend has to either live our her days miserably or take her antidepressants and feel OK while giving the cancer the strength it needs to fight against the Chemotherapy.
As someone with 1 of those 3-4 people very close to me suffering from this horrible disease, even if its only 1 or a few dollars, please make a donation. My beautiful Nan lives with this disease everyday and I wish there was more I could do to help her and others in her position. If you can help me help them, please do.
The Unicorn Foundation is the only charity focused on neuroendocrine tumours (NET). We have the mission to improve awareness of neuroendocrine tumours within the medical profession and the general public; foster patient understanding through support groups and raise much needed funding for Australian research in this area.
