As many of you may know, I have been reading a book called 'A Mind of Your Own' by Dr Kelly Brogan, which advocates making lifestyle and dietary changes to improve mental health. Many of you also know that I have a long history of anxiety/depression which I have been managing for many years. On Monday 15 October I will embark on a 30 day nutritional reset diet as recommended by both Dr Brogan and my functional doctor, Rick Davids from the Health Formula. During this period I will be eating no grains (including rice), no potatoes, no dairy and no sugar. I will only drinking water - no tea, no coffee, no alcohol etc. The idea behind this is to hit the 'reset' button - to give my body a break from refined and processed foods and to go back to eating extremely simply. The reset is designed to reduce inflammation, improve digestion, burn fat, identify food sensitivities, boost energy, regulate blood sugar and stabilise mood. It's been very hard to find the 'right' time to start this process. I enjoy eating out and we have had many celebrations that require eating and drinking of late. The period between Oct 15 and 13 November seemed the best time to give it a go! To keep me accountable, I have decided to make this challenge a fundraiser so that I am not the only one to benefit from the outcome. I have chosen Share the Dignity as my charity of choice because I heard the charity's founder Rochelle Courteney speak at the recent AusMumpreneur Conference & Awards. I was blown away by her passion and also by the fact that there are so many girls and women living in our supposedly 1st world country who are going without the basic including sanitary protection. I could not believe the stories that she shared and hope that this fundraiser can help in some small way. So please, if you can - support my quest for better physical and mental health whilst simultaneously helping the girls and women of Australia access basic sanitary protection and restore their dignity. Thank you!!

Earlier this week I celebrated reaching Day 30 of my 30 Day reset diet challenge by treating myself to a soy decaf mocha!! One of the hardest things about this diet had been not being able to enjoy a hot drink in a cafe. Technically I shouldn’t have had the soy milk or the mocha but I reckoned I deserved a treat after being so strict for 30 days. I am in absolutely no hurry to resume my previous diet but I will try to re-introduce some things back into my diet like potatoes, legumes, a hot drink and the odd glass of wine! Dairy and grains are still definitely off the menu for me! I also saw my psychiatrist this week and will be further reducing my meds from 10mg to 5mg. He warned me that this is now below the minimal dosage for efficacy but understands my desire to reduce my meds and wished me luck! He also told me what to do in case things start to slide. Fingers crossed I will keep doing well on the mental health front. Thank you so much to those who have followed and supported me on this wellness journey which is not ending but only just beginning. xx

Thanks again to those who have sponsored me to date! Here's my latest update... I had no idea that changing my diet could make me feel so good!! I'm now 18 days into my 30 day reset diet and really beginning to reap the rewards. I am feeling more energetic, more switched on, happier, less stressed and anxious, more present and I'm definitely slimmer! Unfortunately, my hubby who is doing the reset with me is not experiencing the same effects yet. He is still in the detox-moan- and-complain-a lot-phase of the diet!! I think the reason that I am feeling better than him is because I have been gluten free for years and I had cut down significantly on dairy and sugar prior to actually starting the 30 day reset. Fingers crossed he will catch up and we will both feel awesome together!

Thanks to those who have already sponsored me! I really appreciate it. I thought I’d update you on how I’ve been going with my 30 day reset diet which I have now been doing for 1 week. * I felt quite nauseous the first few days and have tummy aches most days as my body adjusts to a new way of eating. I’m off to buy some really good probiotics today! * Although you can try and follow somebody else’s meal plan you just may not like what they suggest and it’s ok to adjust to suit your tastes. * I’ve spent more time in the kitchen this week than I have for ages and the diet is forcing me to be creative and take my time with shopping, food preparation and eating. It is making me slow down and be more mindful of everything that I put in my mouth which can only be a good thing. * I have lost some weight which is an exciting bonus! * My mood and energy levels seem reasonably stable. * It’s not fun missing out on meeting friends for coffees but I have met friends for a walk instead which has been lovely. * It's not much fun drinking mineral water instead of wine at your friend’s party but it feels much better than normal waking up the next morning! Only 3 weeks left to go but hey who's counting?!
