No one likes to hear bad news, especially when it affects someone you’re close to.
Sam Kehoe, a goal keeping, and coaching legend with a career that spans decades was recently involved in a terrible motorcycle accident.
Thankfully Sam is currently recovering, but the incident has unfortunately cost him his left-leg from the knee down.
For those who know Sam, you won’t be surprised to hear he’s taken the whole thing on the chin and has relished the opportunity to show anyone who’s game the pictures. But that doesn’t mean as a club we can’t be there to support him.
Sam has given so much to the game of Hockey over the years. He coached the representative side the Red Devils and multiple junior teams at Box Hill, to great success, and a few premierships along the way. He’s played at the highest grade at Yarra, a few season’s at TEMS before returning back to his first club, Box Hill where we had the privilege of sharing the glory of a VL3 grand final win with him in the final year before the merger. Sam even played in the inaugural year of the Brumbies, both in Pennant D and in the hugely fun Summer 5’s competition.
Again, if you know Sam, you’ll know he’s the type of guy that would never ask for help. So, we’re just going to give it to him. This Saturday at the clubrooms every can sold at the canteen will donate $1 towards helping him out. We will also hold a raffle on the day where all proceeds will go towards helping him out during this difficult time. We may even run some games to add to the coffer.
We’ve got 4 teams playing back to back all afternoon, so let’s get behind this great cause and help the grumpy old bugger out.
Go brumbies!
