As a lot of you will know, I've been visiting the Gili Islands since I was a child. I've formed some very close relationships on the islands and lots of the residents have become like my second family.
A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the neighbouring island of Lombok on Sunday, August 5 leaving close to 100 people dead and many parts of the Northern and Western region of the island destroyed.
Most of my friends on have sustained serious damage to their houses and businesses. One friend in particular, Hamzan has had his family home completely destroyed and is now homeless. With an average wage of $150 Australian dollars per month him and his family will struggle to get back on their feet without financial help.
In addition to Hamzan, my friends Saba, Alan, Tedi, Madi and their extended family have had their homes and businesses destroyed. Tedi and Madi remain on the island under Tsunami alerts and ongoing after-shocks to board up and protect the locals homes and businesses from looters.
They need help and I would appreciate any donation possible to help my second family get back up on their feet and rebuild their lives.
