For those of you that know me well, and know my attachment to having no hair might find this unbelievable. But, I assure you, it’s true. I’m growing my unruly red hair back! Mainly for two reasons. One, to put a smile on my grandad’s face. And two, to raise money for Dementia Australia. As many of you would know, my grandma has battled, and continues to battle Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a brutal condition that not only affects my grandma, but also affects the many people that love her, and have watched how it’s taken hold. Most people raise money to shave their hair, but of course I do things a little backward. So, I’ll be raising money to do the opposite – to grow my hair, beyond shoulder length at a minimum. I promise! It's been a very long time since that fateful afternoon when Nathan? shaved my dreads, so this won’t be an easy feat for me, particularly through that awkward “not long” and “not short” stage. So, goodbye to hair clippers and hello to frizz (thanks to the Queensland heat), swimming caps, hair-ties, blow driers and shampoo. Please make the pain of this worthwhile (and keep me accountable) and help me raise funds for Dementia Australia to support the nearly half a million Australians living with this horrible disease.
Dementia Australia supports people living with dementia and their families through advocacy, education, support services and research. We are committed to keeping the spotlight on dementia as the public health challenge of the 21st century.
