Hello!!!
I am running the City to Surf on Sunday the 12th of August. It may come as a surprise to you, but of my many talents, running is not one of them so I am looking for some support from all you fine folk.
Firstly, I will tell you a short story about a dear friend and colleague, Nadia Sama. Nadia is the definition of a pocket rocket. She is a wife and mother to three beautiful children. She is a pint sized positive presence, never one to moan, always up for a laugh.
Nadia was first diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma insitu) in 2007 which she was treated for with a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. In 2011, at the age of 39 Nadia found out she had breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, as well as extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Nadia’s positivity, strength, and support network helped her into remission after years of fighting the disease.
In early 2018, while Nadia was enjoying some time off work with her family, she collapsed and went into a coma. The doctors found her cancer had metastasised to her brain. She has endured endless rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy this year, all the while still turning up to work with a big smile on her face. The cancer has still not disappeared.
So, this is WHY I am completing the City to Surf, and WHY we need your help.
Being a super mum and wife to her family, Nadia is constantly worried about the financial burden this treatment will have on her family as she has had to take lots of time off work during this illness. Having exhausted all other treatment options to no avail, her family and friends want Nadia to be able to have the best chance possible at beating this brutal disease. The ongoing costs of treatment and Oncologist visits is no small fee and we need to raise as much money possible to help Nadia and her family seek alternate treatment to potentially put the statistics back in Nadia’s favour.
Nadia is one of the most kind, humble, strong, brave and inspiring people I have ever met. No donation is too large or small, and every dollar will help push me over the line, knowing we are all able to help save Nadia’s life.
Thank you all for your support!!!
Forza Nadia
