I am Australian Army veteran who has been working on my own mental health after leaving the service. I have changed jobs to a Monday to Friday working week in order to spend more time with my family. I’ve also decided to reinvest and regain in my own fitness as a way to help positively focus on my own mental health. A couple weekends ago I came across the toughest mudder on the 19th of May which is a bit more upgraded than the regular tough mudder events, that being an 8 hour obstacle race that commences at midnight and finishes the following day including obstacles with ice water baths, lots of mud and more cold water. I have also agreed to help out a friend with her team which will be conducting the 96km Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast on the 14th and 15th of July.
My thoughts being that if I am to do these things, that it will be a great opportunity to raise funds for some organisations in the community where every cent will help in their progress. I agree it is ambitious, but then again running in an 8 hour obstacle race in the middle of the night with only four weeks training is similarly ambitious.
I am supporting 42 for 42 http://www.42for42.com.au, an organisation that currently undertaking the project of building an Afghanistan dedicated memorial garden in Brisbane which will be built next to Suncorp Stadium. The idea being a place for veterans to visit and to remember, a place that will share information of what occurred in Afghanistan to those who wish to learn more about the campaign.
I am supporting the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program (https://kokodachallenge.com/youth-program-details) who focuses on supporting young Australians, delivering key programs, courses and opportunities to youth from all social backgrounds.
The third and final organisation is the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia http://www.ctf.org.au/. My friend’s daughter has been diagnosed with NF or Neurofibromatosis which receives far less financial support from the well-known Cancer Foundations. NF is a progressive condition and there is currently no cure. His family has worked tirelessly in bridging this deviation by fundraising and anything I can add with your support would be fantastic.
Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated and I will close the page on the 20th of July.
