21km, 3060m ascent + descent, 9-10 hours. On Labor Day weekend (11th March) this year I'll be challenging myself by climbing Mount Bogong - the highest mountain in the state of Victoria, Australia. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time after seeing and admiring the mountain almost every year of my life, and hearing stories of my grandmother and mother climbing it. I'm pretty darn unfit so this will be quite the adventure of relentless climbing for me ;) The main part of the challenge is actually to raise funds for some causes that are very close to my heart: animals, homelessness, and mental health. You can read more on the right about how each of the charities, Black Dog Institute (mental health research) and Pets of the Homeless, makes a real difference. Also check out: https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/ and https://petsofthehomeless.org.au/ Help motivate me and make a difference by making a donation to the charities I'm fundraising for! Please try split your donation between both charities if you can :) Please also feel free to donate to other charities too - there are so many other worthy charities out there, it was hard to pick just two (also note I deliberately didn't choose current or former employers of mine because I thought it might be a bit odd to do so - but they're both awesome!). Also note Black Dog Institute is a certified Humane Charity (conducts human biology based medical research, not animal testing).

And that’s it, the hike is DONE! 20km, 3060m ascent + descent. In the end it took me 8 hours, 16 mins (8:03 to 16:19). The ascent was gruelling and some sections were steeper than expected (definitely felt more like climbing than hiking). Reaching the summit was euphoric, and the views were spectacular! The descent was almost as hard as the climb, also extremely steep and slippery stones and rocks most of the way. I felt surprisingly okay after I reached the end, except for the bottom of my feet being sore and having some toe blisters. The day after I had a bit of trouble with my right ankle but nothing some rest won't fix :) Your charity donations really helped motivate me throughout the hike (genuinely at one point during the end of the ascent I was telling myself 'You're doing it for charity, just keep going! One more step and you're closer to seeing Ollie' etc) - THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE WHO DONATED! :D I'm so grateful and I'm sure the charities will be too!

Training walk along the Warburton trail from Mt Evelyn to Gruyere. 10km flat is the same as 10km uphill, right? >.
