Shaving my noggin to raise money and awareness for the Myeloma Foundation Australia.
Only a few days ago an event has popped up in my home town Mulwala (gods country) in a mission to raise money and awareness fo Multiple Myeloma. The Myetrim family night has been set up in memory of local identity Gavin Dowling. I’m know many of you have never heard of this disease but Myeloma is a rare type of cancer that develops from plasma cells in the bone marrow.
Over 10 years ago my beautiful Mum was diagnosed with Myeloma. Mum went through chemo, radiation and a stem cell transplant over the course of a few years. As a young fella it was hard to see the old girl going through so much all at once and it knocked her around a lot, but if you know Anne you would know that she faced it head on and to see her come out the other side of treatment happy and healthy has been far from amazing. The fight is far from over though and the disease still remains a part of her daily life where she’s learned to adapt and work with her condition. It’s only rare that people with Myeloma go into remission. Mum is lucky though because her count remains low enough that it can be managed with daily medication.
When she was diagnosed, the only info mum could really find about it was from websites and Facebook groups in the UK and America, but over time thanks to the Myeloma foundation here in Australia, more information and research can be provided to the newly diagnosed. All in all she has been massively inspirational to other people suffering from the disease as she’s defied the odds and still going strong.
So no better excuse than to raise some coin for this awesome cause and because I can’t make it back to the royal for a beer and put the clippers to my dirty locks for the @myetrim family night, I’ve set up a fund me page for people to donate to see me shave it all off later this month. All proceeds will go to the Myeloma Foundation.
