I am a jazz musician based in Perth, and my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease around 13 years ago. I'm also aware of others connected to the WA Jazz community who have suffered from, or are currently suffering from the disease.
So I decided to put on a fundraising event for Parkinson's WA featuring local groups. The event was called "Jazz Against Parknson's" and it happened at The Ellington Jazz Club (Perth) on Tuesday December 12th. The event featured traditional jazz from The Gumnut Stompers, neo-soul from Shameem (and her group), and modern jazz from my own group The Pete Jeavons Quintet. Our MC for the evening was the eloquent and graceful Ali Bodycoat, and as all the musicians performed for free, we managed to raise over $3000 for Parkinson's WA.
For anyone who was not able to attend the event, but would still like to contribute to the fundraising effort, this online campaign will remain open until midnight on Friday Dec 22nd (Australian WST). Donations of any size are greatly appreciated - thanks to all those who have donated so far!
