On 11 October 2017, Pearl, a gentle and well-loved pony who has taught many children to ride and brought happiness to so many young people at the Fannie Bay Equestrian Club, was attacked with a crossbow in her paddock and found with TWO arrows embedded in her side.
Despite attempts to save her through major surgery, Pearl’s internal injuries were just too severe to survive. Pearl was put down that night. Another horse, Hollywood, was also shot. He survived and is being treated for a 6 inch penetration wound.
Our children and our club members are shocked and horrified that anyone could be so brutally cruel.
We are a small not-for-profit community club, still grieving and coming to terms with this tragedy. More than 9 million people expressed shock and support for us on social media. So we have decided to try to turn such a terrible event into something positive through raising the funds to:
• Pay for the vet bills for Pearl and Hollywood
• Improve security of the club grounds and paddocks
• Start the Pearl Legacy Fund, which will foster good citizenship among young people through equestrian activities.
