Miscarriages, stillbirth and infant deaths occur one in every four women. Unfortunately, I became that "one in four" on Monday the 5th of June when our baby gained his wings. That day, our whole world changed in ways we never thought were possible.
For 28 weeks, Lazo and I watched our little bump grow and enjoyed our baby’s routine kicks and movements. We were excited to be inching closer to the due date and dreamt about how loved our little angel will be. And then on Friday 2nd, I woke up and knew something was wrong. I tried to flush out those thoughts by telling myself our baby was just sleeping comfortably. Unfortunately, my worst nightmare became our most horrific reality – our baby had died at 28 weeks and 1 day. On Monday 5th of June 2017, Andjelko was born sleeping. He was born with a nuchal cord wrapped around his little neck, as well as a true knot in the cord causing restriction of nutrient and blood supply. Our perfect little angel wouldn't be coming home with us...
This Thursday the 24th of August would have been Andjelko's due date. To commemorate this date, we are creating this campaign to help raise funds for the nominated charities who have supported me and my family during this traumatic period. The Stillbirth Foundation and Bears of Hope have both provide Lazo and I with support knowing that, unfortunately, we aren’t alone. We would like to acknowledge Liverpool Hospital Maternity Ward and their staff for all their patience, support and care. The aim of this campaign is to help raise awareness of how common this traumatic experience is, to help make October 15 “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day”, and most importantly – to help raise funds for more medical research into preventing miscarriages, stillbirths, infant loss as well as research into preventing umbilical cord accidents.
