Damir's running Melbourne Marathon for Pink Elephants

In October this year I will be running the Melbourne Marathon in support of the Pink Elephants. The Pink Elephants is a not for profit organisation whose aims is to support women experiencing miscarriage.

Unfortunately Pip and I, and many others close to us, have first hand experience with miscarriage. Before falling pregnant with Angus, Pip suffered a miscarriage when she was 10 weeks pregnant. It was a devastating, lonely and isolating time for us. Even at only 10 weeks gestation we had hopes and dreams for our growing baby and the feeling of loss after the miscarriage was overwhelming. We only told a handful of people but it soon became clear to us that so many people have been through the same experience.

1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage (!) but most people suffer in silence. The Pink Elephants aim to support, nurture and empower women as they heal and move forward. They offer really helpful resources to assist people experiencing miscarriage, including information for partners and a very helpful guide on what to say and what not to say to someone after they have had a miscarriage.
