About
In honour of our late Yaiya (Grandmother) Maria, Yanah and I will be taking on the challenge that is Machu Picchu in June. Yaiya lost her short battle with Cancer last year and we are setting out of this trek in the hope of raising money for Cancer research and raise awareness of what the Doctors label “the silent killer”.
Why did we select this trek to raise money? Conquering Machu Picchu will be a test of mental and physical strength for two sisters from Brisbane. Reaching an altitude of 4,198m, climbing endless stairs and an estimated 82 km of trekking different terrain we will feel pain in muscles we never knew we had. But this will be nothing compared to what our Grandmother would have been going through in the last few weeks of her life. She will be our strength through this journey.
Yaiya was always a strong, healthy women and the “chief” of our family. She would out run us on a 10km fun run and her sudden loss has left had an impact on all our lives.
We will reach the sun gate, or entry to Machu Picchu on what would have been her 81st Birthday and will hopefully have a big glass of water.
We will be blogging our trip along the way. Our ultimate goal is to raise funds for Cancer Research in the hope that in the future more lives will be saved rather than lost from Cancer. We are not only doing this for our grandmother but for all families that have experienced the loss of a loved one to cancer. Thanks to all that donate. Adriana and Yanah xx
