I love my horses, I love my sport, my friends and family. Never would I be where I am today without them.
Being accepted amongst people is too hard of an ambition, but being accepted by my horses was second nature. They respect me and love me for who I am, they do not judge me or discriminate against me because I am Visually & Intellectually Impaired as well as being Autistic.
My childhood years was the same as any other horse lover having each weekend away at another showground in some part of our region attending a Pony Club event then getting older and travelling further competing at State events and then Nationals. School is not a pleasant memory, I did well academically though the bullying is my prominent memory. I lived for Friday to be away with friends and my horses.
My middle 20's I had a solid job, a decent dressage horse and decided I wanted my license. I wanted a house marriage and children. It was then we found out I was going blind, I failed the eye sight test for my license. Mum always found a positive amongst a disaster, we joined Equestrian Queensland and I was classified as a Grade V Para Equestrian.
To my surprise, the horse who chose me was a 17 year old Warmblood named Robbie. We fumbled around the dressage arenas until I could memorize a map of 3 x 20 meter circles and the rest is just mapping through a 20 x 60 meter arena by mathematics - my eye sight was getting worse over years so using Maths to Robbies movement per meter I was getting better, it was either that or I rode out of the arenas and eliminated myself.
I watched many of my legends of our sport, Heath Ryan, Sue Hearn, Tor Van Den Berg, Brett Parbery & Nicole Magoffin and soon became friends with many of them, finding so much talent I had to live up to. Mum drove me Interstate to ride amongst these people and learn from competing amongst the best in Open Competition.
I rode in the 2014 Special Olympics National Games at Werribee Park, Melbourne, I bought home a Gold Silver and Bronze medal. Robbie - now semi-retired - I worked with my Black Stallion Dom, training and competing FEI Para Equestrian. It was hard but we did it, but I wanted better scores. With Guidance from an affiliated Equestrian Australia Coach, I learned it was better to go back to the training scale and bring my horse through - better balanced and tuned into the finer basic movements of dressage.
I now have two horses in training and competition, Dom & a Thoroughbred named Flip. We recently competed in the 2017 Special Olympic State Queensland Games. I hope to better my personal scores in Open Official competition as well as building a stronger foundation in training my horses to be able to compete more difficult Para Equestrian tests in the near future.
My dream is to ride for my country. It may take anywhere between 4-8 years to achieve my goal, I am only 30 years old and have the support of Kieffer, Noble Outfitters, Peter Williams Riding Apparel, Showstoppers, Eurohorseware, Earlwood rugs & Prestige Transport, my Sponsors are my family and devoted Support.
I am working hard to earn a Horse-feed Sponsor, and I am fundraising to travel to Interstate competitions for exposure and experience and hope to raise enough money to ride for our country over-seas. I want to continue training here in Australia because I believe we have some of the best coaches in the world.
