Backpack Beds for the Homeless

Backpack Bed for Homeless is a national charity which provides Backpack Beds to street sleeping homeless people without shelter. We work in partnership with 550 welfare agencies across Australia to reach homeless people who do not have any other form of accommodation. The Backpack Bed is study proven to improve health, dignity, sleep, warmth, comfort and safety.



Awarded a 2011 Australian Human rights award by the Australian Human Rights Commission.



The Backpack Bed is a lightweight single person emergency bed – a backpack that rolls out to an all-weather protected bed with built-in mattress.



The Backpack Bed meets 47 international safety and quality standards and rolls up to be worn as an ergonomic backpack – allowing for safe storage of personal items and reducing the stigma attached to carrying around visible bedding. Weighing just 3kg, each Backpack Bed is made from fire retardant materials and is waterproof, windproof and mildew resistant.
