The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Lifesaving Club building has been earmarked for a major overhaul during the next 12 months.

In a joint partnership with Hunter surf Life Saving and MidCoast Council, the surf club building, public amenities and surrounding precinct will have a major upgrade so we're now putting out the call for community assistance with the build.

Tea Gardens Hawks Nest SLSC has served the community loyally for 86 years, it is our turn to ask for help,

Donations through this portal or discounted building supplies in particular would be appreciated to complete this project and fit out the new club house.

With a projected cost of $750,000, TGHN SLSC secured most of the funding for the project through NSW Government grants, local businesses and community organisation donations. MidCoast Council will contribute more than $100,000 worth of financial and capital works assistance as well as supporting the surf club with management of the venture.

A project timeline has been drafted allowing for staged improvements to the surf club, including replacement of the existing roof and external shell, the provision of an improved training room upstairs, and the installation of an accessibility compliant lift and toilet within the club.  A kiosk also will be incorporated within the new club building. As part of the work, the clubhouse will be upgraded to comply with modern Building Code of Australia standards, such as egress and fire safety.

Our aim is to enhance the current facilities and their appearance and create a centrepiece that the community can be proud of. These improvements will allow us to cater for the increased demands placed on the club during holiday periods and to provide for the club's future financial independence.

Working alongside the club contractors, MidCoast Council will enhance  the precinct by upgrading the public amenities, including the installation of an accessibility toilet - the first for this location.

Council also will extend the existing first aid and lifesaving storage shed by providing room for members' toilet and shower facilities. This will allow lifesaving club members access to their own amenities, even if the clubhouse is closed.

Formed in 1931-32, Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club recently became the first surf club in NSW to be awarded gold level status as part of the Surf Life Saving Quality Club Program.

If you are able to offer any financial or in-kind assistance towards this project or you wish to discuss this further please contact Steve Howell on 0467 282 170.
