Raising funds for: Carol Brown
I am hoping to raise medical funds for my sister Carol and her husband Jeff. Those who know Carol, Jeff and their children Sam & Indiana know they all have hearts of gold and are the first to put their hands up to help others. Carol comes across as a happy and bubbly lady - but she has been living behind a mask. She has been suffering in silent with various medical conditions for some years now. Carol's conditions vary from multiple bowel inflammation diseases, vascular diseases, neurological conditions to name a few. We were told we nearly lost her when she underwent emergency bowel surgery where she ended up in an induced coma and spend days in the Gladstone HDU where she had collapsed lungs and went into renal failure.... SCARY STUFF. And this was just the start. Last week, Tuesday 7th February she was flown to Brisbane via the Royal Flying Doctors Service. She is currently getting treatment at the Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital. Carol and Jeff have private insurance but sadly the health insurance doesn't cover the all the specialised treatment & tests she requires on a daily bases. For example her PICC line (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) cost $500 and is not cover by their health insurance, nor are various scans and daily pathology tests she requires. The PICC line is a thin, soft plastic tube, like an intravenous (IV) line that allows her to receive medicines and special protein fluids directly into her bloodstream; because at this stage she is unable to use her digestive system. The priority of the specialists at the moment is too get Carol stronger with the hope she will become strong enough for more surgeries in the near future. Even with health insurance, the medical bills alone are becoming a financial burden to this amazing family. And the last thing they need to worry about is money. Jeff has had to take extended time off work to be with Carol. The medical bills are starting to build up. She has a neuro-stimulator implant fitted on her spine, she suffers daily with chronic neuropathic nerve pain. She has suffered with many gynaecological conditions over the years and she has had multiple pelvic organ prolapses. She has had osteomyelitis which a bone infections. Shocking I know and she is only 45 years old. A lot of Carol's treatment is not available in her home town of Gladstone nor through the public health system. Carol has always had to travel to her ongoing specialist appointments. At one stage there she was traveling at least once a month to Brisbane. Carol was to the point of having to prioritise her treatments mostly due to financial reasons. But unfortunately her prioritising has come to an end..... Carol treatment can not longer be prioritised... She is too unwell. They have a wonderful support group of family and friends that are helping out with their beautiful 9 year old daughter who is nearly 600km away from her parents. She missing her mummy and daddy and really doesn't have any idea how sick her mummy is - and that is now Jeff & Carol wishes it to stay! Carol and Jeff has always provide for their family and have NEVER asked others for help even though Carol medical expenses on daily bases have been ridiculously expensive. Any support is greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart .... No matter now small. Also can you PLEASE share this link with any friends and family you think would like to help out Carol & Jeff who have always been there for others. Kindest Regards Tricia Van der Mark

Well life has been moving along slowly since Carol last returned home from Brisbane and her last operation. She has been up and down over the last couple months with a few hospital visits/stays. She has been recovering/resting at home as per doctors orders, with the occasional outing for appointments. She he manage to make to to her beautiful daughter confirmation in May, which was a wonderful occasions to share with them, SHe was also lucky enough to spend the day with our mum and her daughter for mother;s day... however Indi did end up in the ER with a broken arm and had to travel to Rockhampton for treatment. It is never dull in the Brown house.... lol. Carol returned to Brisbane last week to catch up with her surgeons and is returning to Brisbane tomorrow morning early to under going another operation, normally it would just be a day or over night procedure but as Carol health isn;t the best and she is still recovery from her last lot of major surgeries - she will be in hospital till the end of the week at least. So I just wanting to let you know that the money we all have raised is well and truly getting used on Carol's medical expenses.... there is always something needs to be done and paid for. SO THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

We would like to thank everyone for their support & generosity during my illness. We are overwhelmed by the support we have received by family, friends & even local businesses. Including people who are just acquaintances. I am getting better every day, but still have a long way to go. I have a few operations to go yet, but that is ok. As the Drs in Brisbane told me that I am very fortunate to have a second chance in life, because sadly not everyone does. Please accept our heart felt thanks for all of your prayers, lovely messages & phone calls. Etc: etc: Also, we would like thank Tricia for setting up the 'My Cause page'. It has being very helpful because Jeff hasn't worked much since Xmas. Thank you to everyone who helped out with Indi. So thank you, thank you, thank you. Much love to everyone. Carol & Jeff xx

Carol is resting and slowly recovery at home for her pending surgery. She is taking each day as it comes. Not venturing too far from home, other that medical appointments. She has been inundated with requests for visits etc. We ask that everyone please respect that Carol still has a long road ahead of her and needs to rest. She has been overwhelmed with the support she is receiving from everyone and is deeply touched by all the support, phone calls, texts messages and general offers for help. Once Carol is stronger I will post an update from her, but until then please respect our wish and give her the space and time she needs.

Well my darling little sister is sleeping in her own bed tonight. Carol was discharged from hospital yesterday. She has come such along way in the last week....but she still has a lot of procedures ahead of her. The specialist have decided that she is not ready internally for anymore procedures/operations at the moment. So she need to rest and recover - and the best place for her is home for now!! She will be heading back to Brisbane in 6-8 weeks for her next lot of treatment. Thank you so much for supporting my crowdfunding project... but we still need more help to assist with Carol's ongoing treatments - so PLEASE keep sharing.

I have been holding off doing an update on Carol as I was hoping to share some good news. Unfortunately I don't have any.... but thankfully I don't have bad news either. Basically Carol still isn't doing very well. She has been in Brisbane 2 weeks today. They are still attempting to get her strong enough for surgery. She has been vomiting again since last Friday day and night and is totally exhausted, Today a feeding tube was inserted into her stomach through her abdomen. Everyday she is having blood tests, scans and today she had another colonoscopy and endoscopy. PLEASE keeping sharing.... Carol and Jeff have a long road ahead of them..... Jeff doesn't look like he will be returning to work anytime soon. Thanks for reading
