Hi everyone, 

Our charity, Got Your Back Sista, needs to raise at least $20,000 which will help us to help at least another 40 women to begin their lives again after fleeing domestic violence and receive emotional support through our new workshop called 'Rise Up and Thrive'.

THE MORE MONEY WE RAISE, THE MORE WOMEN AND CHILDREN WE CAN HELP!

$20 - gives a woman a toaster and a new kettle.

$50 - provides a kitchen starter set including crockery, cutlery & cooking utensils.

$200 - allows a woman to participate in our workshop program.

$500 - provides a woman a bed, mattress, pillows, doona and bed linen.

$1000 - provides a woman with a refrigerator, a bed and various household items.

Women that have fled domestic violence often leave with nothing but the clothes on their back. They must start their lives again and need help and support to move past the trauma they have experienced, to be happy, thrive and live independently with confidence.

Our non-profit organisation, 'Got Your Back Sista', was established only 12 months ago to support women and their children who have escaped domestic and family violence to begin their lives again by:

1) helping to set-up a safe home free from violence,

2) providing workshops, mentoring and counselling to help women move past the trauma they have experienced, to thrive and live independently.

So far in the last 12 months since we were established, we have:

- helped 58 women begin again by providing furniture, household items and personal care items.

- helped establish a new crisis accommodation home in the Hunter Region.

- helped create the new womens' shelter 'Trisha's House' in collaberation with other community groups.

- run the campaign 'I say NO to domestic violence' gathering more than 500 people from our region to stand together against family violence in our inaugural community engagement campaign.

As an organisation that is not government funded, we rely on donations, grants and fundraising to provide assistance and services to our most vulnerable women and their children.

Domestic violence refers to violence, abuse and intimidation between people who are or have been in an intimate relationship. The perpetrator uses violence to control and dominate the other person. This causes fear, physical harm and/or psychological harm.

Domestic violence is a violation of human rights.

Domestic violence in Australia can include:

- emotional abuse

- physical assault

- sexual assault

- verbal abuse

- financial abuse

- psychological abuse

- isolating a woman from her friends and family

- stopping a woman from practicing her religion.
