Let's 'see' Hugo Cycle!

The reason I came over to Australia is to see an incredibly beautiful and diverse land - a land once occupied by Australian aboriginals, with incredible history. Exploring by cycling offers no better perspective, but for some, the stunning beauty of this land cannot be appreciated, especially for the aboriginals who are most at risk of blindness.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults are six times more likely to go blind, but 94% of vision loss is preventable or treatable. Eye diseases like cataract, trachoma and diabetic retinopathy lead to permanent blindness when often, the conditions are treatable or preventable.

I'll be pedalling along the east coast of Australia, into the mountains and across vast open planes between Byron Bay (where I'm currently living and working) and Melbourne, leaving a trail more akin to an ant than a crow. The distance I will cover, will be between 2500 - 3000km.

I'll be doing this on my own, self supported. I hope the ride will take roughly 4 weeks, with my final stop being Albert Park, Melbourne. I will be 'seeing' as much as I am pedalling, so in my opinion there is no more appropriate charity.

As a pedicab driver, I will be fundraising (and training) on the job and on my way down the coast! I will be posting to social media (Instagram, Facebook) to let you all know how I'm doing and I'll be sharing a blog with photos and videos (details to be announced!).
