My name is Rhiannon, I am 17 years old and I will be shaving my hair (bald!) to fight off cancer one small step at a time! Cancer has affected many people close to my heart including my mum and grandma and it was a scary experience even for me, but thanks to the loving people around us always showing support, things stayed positive.
There have been many people in my community and in this case my school community affected by cancer. I will be supporting Jack, who was diagnosed with brain cancer a few weeks ago at 19 years of age and was given 12 months to live. Miraculously after treatment, there is no visible tumour and recently celebrated his 20th birthday. The tumour is called GBM4 or Glioblastoma and is incurable, so there is a high chance of it returning.
My goal is to raise $5000 for ‘Walk4BrainCancer’ which raises funds and awareness for brain cancer and will be contributing towards the Fleming family’s fundraiser . It is really important that we support these charities as over 4,600 people under the age of 19 will be diagnosed with a primary brain tumour this year.
The hair I shave off will be donated to Variety the Children's Charity, which makes wigs for kids with cancer.
So this year in April, I will be shaving all of my hair off- hopefully by then we will have reached our goal of $5000 so I hope you can all help us make this possible.
Thank you everyone and remember your donations no matter what the value, is greatly appreciated and another dollar closer to the goal amount.
