Our mission
The premise is simple: we aim to get as many bikes from Melbourne to our partners in Africa as possible, and for this we need a suitable vehicle.
We have achieved an incredible amount so far (more on that below) but we don’t want to sacrifice our health, time and resources any longer by using our current car and trailer. It’s time to progress, grow and do more of what we do best – bike shipping!
This is how you can help
Help us raise funds so we can get our very own B4H vehicle.
We reckon we can get something suitable (used) for around $4000. That's our objective.
If we are lucky enough to get overwhelming support, we might also be able to invest in a more efficient replacement trailer.
A bit more about why this is a cause worth raising money for
Although we may take it for granted here, a bicycle can really change lives in Africa. It enables access to healthcare, education, jobs and social groups which otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
Almost more importantly though, the bikes are delivered to existing bicycle repair shops where they are sold for profits which then go towards other community projects and reliable incomes for the bike shop employees. The bicycle repair shops also act as a place where young girls and boys can gain a qualification and learn bike mechanics – a skill which they can use anytime, anyplace over the course of their lives.
We have achieved a remarkable amount since 2009, shipping more than 15 containers with 6000 bikes to over 5 countries. In the past three years we've used Uncle Pete's ageing car to collect over 3000 bicycles from around Melbourne.
It's been terrific and lots of people have seen the team in and around Melbourne week in week out. But after three years, our trusty steed has been well and truly run into the ground, and it’s time to retire it to stud (the vehicle, not Uncle Pete).
With your support, we will be able to purchase this second hand Ute and be able to continue our grassroots work.
Please support us and help to spread the word.
We can't do our valuable work without looking after our own team.
