Let's help Joshua get to Perth for 2016 Hockey Nationals

Josh has been hanging around our Club since he was about 3, waiting around on the sideline while his older brother and 2 sisters, all excellent hockey players, played their games.

Josh was always hitting a ball around with bigger kids, although our smallest stick was up to his chest, his skills were already evident. He had to wait a year until he was big enough to join our Minkey group.

Josh moved up into our Under 11 comp when he was 6 years old, and continued there for 2 more years. He wanted more challenging competition so he moved up to our Under 15 comp when he was 9 – and is now playing in this division for the 5th year.

Josh has played a few seasons of Junior hockey in Newcastle competitions as well as continuing his involvement at the Bay. He currently plays Junior games in Newcastle in U13, U15, U18 – all on Friday night. On Saturday he coaches / umpires Under 11’s, plays Under 15’s, then umpires Senior games.

He was picked up in the HockeyNSW Centre of Development program in 2015 and 2016.

Joshua was selected in the Newcastle Association team to go to the NSW Under 13 titles in 2015, and again in 2016. This year he was selected in the NSW Under 13 team which is due to go to Perth for the Australian Titles in September.

Joshua is the first junior to come up through the ranks at Nelson Bay and progress on to the highly competitive State level.

All at Nelson Bay Hockey Club are delighted to have been able to contribute in some way towards Joshua’s successes. Few of us are surprised, as Josh has always played with a skill, determination and a level of maturity well beyond his years. We look forward with keen anticipation to see what Joshua will achieve in his future hockey career.

Nelson Bay Hockey Club also proudly accepts the proof that such a small regional club can offer hockey coaching, competition and support for a young player to rise to State and National levels.

Josh has recently been selected to represent NSW U13 boys Hockey team at the 2016 Nationals to be held in Perth at the end of September.

Josh plays for Norths in the Newcastle Junior competition. He has been playing hockey for 9 years starting out in the Nelson Bay Club, still participating as a player and umpire. His enthusiasm and sportsmanship is an encouragement to many, both on and off the field.

This opportunity for him to compete representing NSW at a National level in Perth is both a privilege and a thrilling adventure for him.

$3400 is required for airfare and other transport, accommodation, offical and competition fees. Team uniforms, meals and other costs are in addition to the base amount.
