23rd March, 2016 - Well it's been just over 1 month since TC Winston hit our village and a lot has happened. The village has had many visitors - news crews reporting from Nayavutoka as it is situated in one of the worst hit areas of the island, volunteers giving up their time to deliver essential food and medicines, extended family from all over Fiji desperate to check on their loved ones, and most recently the Prime Minister of Fiji, surveying the damage.
For every single person that visited, there were so many more sending their love and prayers to the villagers, ensuring they know how much people care.
We have been speaking to Timoci Nabogibogi (Sais' brother and the head of the village) almost daily since the phone service was restored. He has passed on how touched and thankful the people of Nayavutoka are for the support they are receiving and for each and every donation made.
Currently everyone is sleeping in temporary structures built from whatever they could salvage and a few tents. We are hoping that the monies we raise here will aid in purchasing building materials to help rebuild the homes that have been completely destroyed.
Once again, thank you sincerely for all the support received so far. If you are able to share our page where you can so we can reach our target of $10,000 for the people of Nayavutoka to rebuild.
23rd February, 2016 - It is hard to get a lot of information on the current situation in Fiji, as power and essential services are still not operating in the regions hardest hit. We found out how badly Cyclone Winston hit Nayavutoka Village, via the government website. We still have no word from our family.
With all the challenges they have to deal with at the moment, we want to try and help as much as we can to assist them in getting the materials they need to rebuild the homes and community buildings that have been lost or in need of repairs.
Anything at all you can donate to help is greatly appreciated.
Cyclone Winston recently hit the beautiful islands of Fiji, sadly causing death and destruction. Our family village of Nayavutoka, Ra was in the path of Winston, with most homes flattened or severely damaged. We are trying to raise money to help rebuild the village.
