My name is Marnie Johnston, and I'm a proud Lion from Lismore, NSW. This year I am participating in the 2015-2016 Lions Medical Research Personality Quest, for which I will be spending the next couple of months fundraising for the Lions Medical Research Foundation as the entrant for the Lismore City Lions Club.
This is the second year I have participated, having previously gotten to the Grand Finals of the 2012-2013 LMRPQ, and I hope to have just as much fun this time around (And raise even more money for this valuable foundation).
I didn't want to ask for money for doing "nothing", so I've decided to take on a challenge: I'm going to hike the Historic Nightcap National Park Walk over the weekend of April 17-19 2016. It's an 18km hike conducted over two days - which may not be much to some, but as a beginner hiker, it's daunting to me. Bundled up with my (heavy) pack and tent, I'll be hiking through the bush all for this wonderful cause come April.
That's the endgame for this particular campaign, to celebrate the fundraising - but this campaign is, on the whole, about raising money over the next few months for the fantastic Lions Medical Research Foundation, who fund and nurture scientists as they undertake important medical research (How about this - the Foundation has supported researchers like Prof Ian Frazer, Dr Ingrid Hickman, Prof Paul Colditz, and Dr John McGrath in their work).
What you'll be donating to when supporting my campaign is the Lions Medical Research Foundation, while also progressing me through the Lions Medical Research Personality Quest.
You'll have my deep appreciation, and the appreciation of the many people in hospitals throughout Australia who have benefited, or will benefit in the future, from the work that researchers have done with the help of the LMRF.
Whether it's $5 or $500 that you donate: I thank you with all my heart.
