We have been helping our local koalas for the past 16years on Magnetic Island North Queensland. Please see our Facebook page Bees and Koalas A government grant recently enabled us to set up a dedicated koala kindergarten and rehabilitation clinic However with the recent dry "wet"seasons we are already at capacity with unwell and orphaned koalas so a larger enclosure is required We are the only dedicated koala facility for the longer term care of our North Queensland population We desperately need more enclosures plus funding for ongoing day to day costs With a major El Niño event predicted the situation seems unlikely to improve any time soon I am a veterinary surgeon with an interest in wildlife medicine and conservation so can provide the veterinary care My husband Tim and daughter Izzy ( aged 8) are the other members of this passionate little team The purchase of a protected safe Nature Refuge is on our Wishlist too with koalas coming from different areas we also need to set up a network to get them back "home" once they are fit enough We can provide the care and would like to take the lead from respected groups such as Ipswich Koala Protection and Rescue Society to emulate what they have achieved down South
