Our beaches are beautiful and I can't imagine not being able to walk across the sand to dip my toes in the water, have a paddle or swim.

Yet too many people in our community can't reach the water's edge due to their physical health holding them back. Beaches aren't the friendliest places for wheelchairs and crossing sand can also be difficult for people using walking aids or even prams can find it difficult to navigate this terrain.

That's why I'm partnering with the Adelaide community, Surf Life Saving SA and Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club, to trial a beach access mat at Seacliff beach. In the first instance we hope that this mat can be rolled out during surf life saving patrols to direct people to the safest part of the beach. In the longer term I'd love to see these access mats at every patrolled beach in Adelaide.

Beach for All - thank you and update!

Jan
I wanted to thank you to thank everyone for their generous support of Beach for All. While we did not make it to our $10,000 total in small scale donations, we did raise nearly $3,000 AND generated enough community interest to take us to our overall total. Massive thanks to the Rotary Club of Brighton, Holdfast Bay Council, the Lions Club of Hallett Cove, Solarsuit Australia and enerG+ Personal Training for their community and corporate support.

More updates will follow, but we are hoping for an installation of the trial walkway before the end of January!
