Paul is one amazing person. He has a big personality, a big heart and he never fails to put a smile on everyone's face. Paul at 36 years of age is one of approximately 34,000 people in Australia living with Cerebral palsy. His disability affects his left side (hemiplegia) which has made walking and other activity’s difficult throughout his life. Paul has recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis throughout his body and was told his back has the bones of a 73 year old man. He has recently had a lengthy 12 week stay in hospital with broken ribs and minor cracks in his hip after a fall. As determined as Paul is walking has now become unsafe for him, even having the comment made by one doctor “I don’t know how you’ve managed to walk at all for the past 36 years” He has fought for his ability to walk because being permanently in a wheelchair in Paul’s eyes is like giving up. In a desperate hope to find a way to save Paul’s independence we decided to fund raise for a Rex Bionics personal mobility device "Robot legs" the world’s first hands free self-supporting robotic legs www.rexbionics.com.Our only obstacle now is the price. At $150,000 these custom legs are way beyond anything we can afford and with a huge lack of funding for disabled adults like Paul we need all the help we can get. If we don’t reach our target the money we raise will go into a wheelchair that is suited more specifically to Paul’s needs as at the moment we have a small chair that was lent to us and is really only intended for indoor use. The funds will also buy a much needed van so that we can take Paul out without using a manual chair.
We have started a Page to raise awareness about CP and also keep people informed about the upcoming fundraising events. Plus it has the added benefit of putting smiles on everyone's faces, now what could be better than that :) check outwww.facebook.com/cardoughnuts
