Thank you so much for reading our story. My name is Alan and I am the fevered mind who decided to take Chris’s story to a national stage.
You may have heard a little about the story of the Facebook page, My Name is Chris (Facebook.com/mynameischrisAU). The short story is that my mate & contemporary is Chris Brugger. He’s been fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on several fronts for the past 7 years. Not only does he have this cancer inside his body, but he also fights the duel misconceptions of ‘Good’ Lymphoma vs ‘Bad’ Lymphoma (there is no such thing, Lymphoma IS Cancer) but also the commonly held belief that what your doctor says, goes. We’re passionate about righting these wrongs, but they are not the main reason we launched this campaign.
Chris is facing his 4th round of Hodgkins Lymphoma (this one after a very short remission) and his Cancer has now progressed to the point that is, for want of a better phrase, chronic. We do not say terminal because Chris has an opportunity to fight this thing.
A drug has been made available to him as his best course of survival until a cure might be found. The concern we (and it is a big WE) have is that the drug is not available on the PBS and is not likely to be for some time. Conservative estimates for this point in time for the 6 rounds currently required to help stave of the Cancer come in at up to $16,000.
Per dose.
We have a big hill to climb and we’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to have the MyCause community involved in raising the profile of our movement and helping Chris get back to full health. This way, Chris will still be with us to witness the legacy of this campaign.
I'm a young father & husband. It’s like I woke up one day and suddenly my life wasn’t my own, someone had decided it now belonged to cancer. I had no say, no warning, no choice. Everything I did, said and planned had changed in an instant. I now had Hodgkin's lymphoma and my new goal was to survive.
