***NEW UPDATE***
Due to expected numbers which will exceed the capacity of the Bowls Club, the event will be going ahead at HE Parker reserve as originally planned. To accommodate everyone and all of the auction etc, the club has organised a giant wedding style fully enclosed marquee for the ground, including heaters, lights and floor. Sorry for the changes, but this way the event will be at the football club, where Simon would have wanted it.
***UPDATE - Please note that the target amount has changed a couple of times, this happens as the club learns more about the situation. Basically, now the target will stay where it is. We have just learned that thanks to an outrageous fee to transfer Simon etc, their expenses are well into six figures. This just means we will have to look bigger to help the family, but every little bit counts! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. The family is completely overwhelmed with the support***
Please read on...
A great friend of the Heathmont Football Club, Simon Minson, sadly passed away on September 1. Simon played a number of years with Heathmont, and when he wasn't playing, he was the first to put up his hand to help out wherever possible.
The Heathmont Football Club is asking for donations from anyone who knew Simon to assist his family. As he was overseas when he passed, we would love any donation you can give to help cover the family's travel expenses etc.
Because of Simon's condition, he wasn't able to get any travel insurance, so the family is massively out of pocket. All funds will go towards reimbursing them in this terrible time.
This is very small token of our gratitude for all the countless efforts he put in for others, not to mention he was just a great person and we're all honoured to have known him.
We'd love to reach the fundraising target for the family, and anything above that will be going straight to the Royal Children's Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust.
The club will also be holding a fundraising event on Friday September 12 at HE Parker Reserve, Heathmont Road, Heathmont at 7pm to help reach the target. Everyone who knew, or even knew of Simon, is welcome and encouraged to attend.
RIP Simmo.
