Kilometres for KIF1A : 28 Kilometre Challenge for a KIF1A Cure
*Challenge runs February 1 - February 28, 2025.
$28.00 for 28 Days - All funds raised goes directly to Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Dr Simranpreet Kaur’s research team for KIF1A KAND.
Will you join us for Kilometres for KIF1A? We are challenging each other to complete 28 Kilometres or MORE in the month of February by February 28, 2025, Rare Disease Day!
KIF1A Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND) is a rare and severe neurodegenerative condition caused by variants in the KIF1A gene which is vital for healthy brain function. Its disruption can lead to symptoms like intellectual disability, seizures, significantly reduced vision, and mobility issues. For some of our children they never learn to walk and for those who can, they face the possibility of losing this ability over time and in severe cases, some children do not survive beyond early childhood due to complications.
Sadly, there are currently no treatments to stop or reverse KAND’s progression.
Dr. Simranpreet Kaur at MCRI is leading Australia’s first KAND research program, collaborating with experts globally to accelerate the development of effective therapies. All funds raised will support this critical research.
WE DON’T TAKE A SINGLE STEP FOR GRANTED.
As parents and caregivers, it’s also crucial for us to stay strong, and we’re on a mission to honour our KAND warriors this Rare Disease Month by raising awareness and support for KIF1A research aimed at finding effective treatments and hopefully one day a cure.
You can cover these Kilometres however you choose throughout the month of February. Whether it's walking, running, swimming, wheeling, or cycling, it’s all about moving forward when and how you feel most comfortable. Every Kilometre counts, and we hope we can inspire everyone to participate!
Together, we can go further and make a difference in the fight against KAND. Each step brings us closer to a cure, and we hope you'll join us in this important 28-Kilometre challenge!
When you complete 28 Kilometres or more AND submit your results via Edward’s Journey Social Media IG and FB, you will be able to see who moved the most in the month of February.
Can't join the challenge, but still want to help? Your donations and support for our MCRI-KIF1A research is greatly appreciated. Click DONATE above to help us reach our goal!
