Two weeks before his 15th birthday, Ekrem was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
The chemotherapy had adverse effects, some of which he deals with to this day. Ekrem let the experience define him in a negative way for many years, until he didn’t.
It was difficult for him to turn things around but a change in mindset allowed him to become a positive person, he saw the strength of mind he had and realised that he could do anything he set his mind to. It blessed him with a never give up attitude and unbreakable willpower.
Ekrem is doing this run for all young people going through adversity and illness, to show them that these things don’t define us and that the only limits are those we place on ourselves. We are capable of the extraordinary.
So on February 23, starting at 7am, Ekrem will be running 50km around the 3.3km loop at Gowanbrae Park to raise funds for SMILE Auxiliary to support areas of most need of the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne.
To support Ekrem's run to help sick kids, donate now.
The RCH Foundation is the fundraising arm of The Royal Children's Hospital. We raise, manage and distribute money to enable the RCH to provide the best care to patients and their families.
You can create a brighter future for sick children.
