Support Tara’s Recovery
Our cousin-sister, Tara Lloyd, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September. Tara is a proud Baramadagal and Wiradjuri woman, wife of Lloydy and Mum of three. Tara is 38 years old and started working as an Aboriginal education assistant in schools across the Riverina in August 2024, as such will need to take unpaid leave in order to undergo an urgent operation and take recovery time. Lloydy also having started new employment through the year, will need to take unpaid leave to be with Tara for her operation and provide care for her during her recovery phase at home. This has come unexpectedly and is taking a huge emotional and financial toll on our sis and the family. While health insurance will cover part of the surgical costs, there is a gap of $8,000 that Tara will need to cover herself in order to pay for the surgery. Tara will undergo surgery on 31 October 2024, on-Country, in Sydney, and will be hospitalised for at least a week, before continuing her recovery at home in Wagga Wagga over several weeks. Despite this shock diagnosis, Tara has been focused on supporting her son Fletcher’s golfing aspirations, with Fletcher competing in the Jack Newtown International Golf Tournament in October, where there were 15 countries represented in the tournament, and Fletcher competed against 511 players, ranking 12th in the scratch-score and 14th in the net-score. However, general cost of living, having life-saving surgery and trying to still facilitate opportunities for the kids is going to be a stretch over the next couple of months. We appreciate that everyone has existing financial commitments, which is why we appreciate anything you can afford to contribute to help Tara and the family through this unexpected difficult time. If you are not in a position to give financially, we would appreciate you sharing the link and sending your love and highest thoughts to our Tara during this time. We will provide updates on Tara’s surgery and recover via this page. Marri Didjurigura, Linda and Jayne

Thank you everybody! We’ve had some private business donations too which means the full cost of the surgery has been covered, and some money has gone towards the rent while Tara isn’t working and neither is Warren while he cares for her. Tara is still in pain from what was a big surgery, she had a 12cm incision cut through her skull which has been fused and stapled stapled closed. It’s been extremely painful still giving her a constantly throbbing head, and little sleep! Good news is that the tumour on the brain was removed, however significant growth had begun to grow so large it was pushing through the base of the skull and was growing around her upper spinal vertebrae’s. The surgeon had to tear all muscles away from the bones and remove the tumour which was a difficult process, taking around 5 hours 45 mins! Thank you for the donations, shares and continued thoughts and well wishes. Tara - we’re so proud of you, you warrior woman. While it’s not fun at the moment, it can only get better from here x

Tara had surgery today to remove the brain tumour. Just a quick update to say that all went well, it’s been removed and she’s now in ICU for the next few days at least as she starts to recover. Thanks to everyone for keeping her in your thoughts today. 🙏🏼👣

Tara's story featured in the Daily Advertiser over the weekend: https://www.dailyadvertiser.com.au/story/8801267/support-shown-to-wagga-mum-tara-lloyd-after-brain-tumour-diagnosis/?cs=9612&fbclid=IwY2xjawGMc9JleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHVj0a81C2MBkMlDTqxGQYtQL87KXal8umcj5wcM-PXN0qvyTXMJK-b8EHQ_aem_J7KbVBIbmVS0eTWO7Cm2cA Thank you to all those who've now helped us raise just over half the cost of the operation! We appreciate if you could keep sharing the link, as Tara still needs to cover the whole $8k for the surgery and will be without wages for 8 weeks post-surgery. Big thanks x

Thank you to everybody who has donated to Tara’s fundraiser so far! We’re apprehensive as the days to surgery get closer, but know that Tara has a good medical team awaiting her in Sydney to do this much needed surgery and she’ll be better for it once recovered. We’re very grateful that everyone who has been generous so far, and has helped us raise almost half the funds needed to cover the costs of the surgery with still $4180 remaining to meet that cost. We will keep you updated and biggest thanks once again x
