On October 28, 2024, I will be cutting off my long hair in honour of my friend Abbey Solo and to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
I met Abbey when she was 6 years old, and I was 3 years old. We were both undergoing cancer treatment at the time, and although it might have seemed scary, Abbey showed me that even the smallest of girls can be the bravest.
I have been growing my hair for 10 years (since the end of my cancer treatment). I will be cutting off 46 cm of my hair and donating it to be made into a wig for a cancer patient. At the same time I hope to fundraise as much money as possible for the Abbey Solo Foundation to help support more families affected by childhood cancer.
The foundation honours the memory of Abbey Solo and seeks to provide support to families of children living with cancer by being responsive to each family’s needs in ways that will support them to be together, stay connected and assist them to maintain physical and mental health & wellbeing.
