I will be running 100km in the Snowy Mountains this December - my biggest challenge yet - in order to raise money for the Transform Lives Fund. The Fund targets effective interventions that transform the lives of people living in extreme poverty. Please donate here - Selene and I will match your donation (up to a total of $5k) - thank you!
A little more about the Transform Lives Fund... The Transform Lives Fund serves to advance life-changing interventions to improve lives substantially, including: 1. Repairing obstetric fistula, a devastating childbirth injury often caused by inadequate access to proper medical care or contraception, that leaves women with chronic pain, incontinence, and often shunned by their communities. 2. Supporting nutrient fortification, including iodine and micronutrients, to prevent intellectual and developmental impairment from deficiencies. 3. Restoring sight by identifying and treating vision impairment—including blindness—through accessible eye care, operations, treatments, and medications. I found out about the Fund when listening to the Life You Can Save by Peter Singer during my long runs - highly recommend and freely available. More information about the Life You Can Save and the Fund can be found here: https://www.thelifeyoucansave.org.au/cause-funds/transform-lives-fund/
And a little about the race itself and my training... The Kosci 100 is in the Snowy Mountains in Australia, is actually 106.4km (cheeky!) and has an elevation gain of 3,132m. As this is my biggest challenge, I’ve engaged the support of a running coach Jo Wood. I’m currently running about 60-80km per week, including lots of hills and stairs. The training appears to be paying off with a surprise 3rd place finish at the Australian Alpine Ascent 22km in March. I’m looking forward to more events over the course of the year including the UTA50 that many of you have generously supported in the past. I’ll post some regular updates on this page as the Kosci 100 gets closer.
