I am training hard to take on an ultrahuman physical and mental endurance challenge – Ultraman Australia 2022 is a 3 day multisport race [10km ocean swim, 420km cycle and 84km run.] held in Noosa QLD 7th-9th May. There are so many organisations doing amazing things but on this occasion i’ll be sharing funds raised between the following: Nairobi Hospice (www.nairobihospice.or.ke) My mum was a founder of Nairobi Hospice in the 1980s when we lived in Kenya, an organisation that provides palliative care throughout Kenya. She was so passionate about that work and I hope I am significantly shaped by the person she was. In2Ed Africa (www.in2edafrica.com) A recently established foundation in South Australia, operating 2 schools in Kenya removing the barriers to education and promoting purposeful enterprise that transforms global communities. Your donations will go towards a number of initial projects in Kenya to close the digital divide and increase participation in schools in the Kenyan slums. I am also personally motivated to supporting the next generation be the best that they can be, whatever their situation. Barncancerfonden (Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund) - www.barncancerfonden.se/en/ As a family we had some special years living in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. Good friends in Sweden, UK and Australia have found support from this and similar organisations around the world. Every child deserves a childhood and I admire the lust for life shown by those who have gone through situations that no child or parent should have to go through. This, and Nairobi hospice, is also dear to me since because mum and a number of close family left us too soon because of cancer. Healing with horsemanship I grew up with a love of horses and spent so much time at the local stables. The unexplainable connection we can sometimes create between humans and animals, and learn so much from, is just so powerful. I have worked closely with the armed forces through projects in the defence industry and have a great respect for veterans and organisations that support them. I know a number of people who have really struggled with life after service and organisations like Healing with Horsemanship have a real place in addressing mental health and wellbeing.
