My name is Bryan Taaffe and in 2019 I rode my bike from Perth to Melbourne in 21 days, smashing my personal best and raising almost $15,000 for the youth mental health organisation, ALIVE.
I had such an awesome experience that two years later, I've got another itch to scratch. This time I've upgraded my trusty defy pro bike to a recumbent bike and in mid July 2021, I will be riding from Fremantle Beach WA to Bondi Beach Sydney. Over 4000kms and aiming to finish in 15 days. Thats 270kms a day!
I will be using Strava to track my every move and will upload it every night when I stop for a sleep. If anyone wants to track my progress, you can sign up to Strava (First Month Free), key in my name and watch me go!
I will be riding as long as I possibly can for each day. I know that the temperature will drop in the minus when the sun goes down, but that's ok as I'm from Ireland and am built for this temperature.
This is a solo and unsupported effort so I will have to carry spare parts for the bike, as well as food and drink. This time around I won't have enough space for bedding so I will be checking into a motel each night.
I have been training hard for this since July last year, made a lot of sacrifices and have got my body in tip top shape for this brutal event. I am aiming to have a big surprise for everyone awaiting my arrival in Sydney.
As I am very passionate about the support of our youths mental health, I will be aiming to smash my goal of $10,000 for ALIVE a second time around. So come on, let's all stand together, dig deep and support the future of our young people. Every little bit counts. As times are tough for some people at the moment, you can manually enter a small amount toward my cause instead of clicking the $50 button. Lets band together and help this great organisation!
Cheers!
Bryan
